Sugilite was first described in 1944 by the Japanese petrologist Ken-ichi Sugilite, sugilite is a rare a rare pink to purple cyclosilicate mineral first found on Iwagi Islet, Japan, where it was found in an intrusive stock of aegirine syenite.
